What is Appraisal and Revalidation?
UK doctors and dentists who are on the GMC’s or GDC’s register need to have annual appraisals culminating in, every five years, a recommendation to the GMC/GDC about their revalidation. Revalidation is necessary for a doctor and dentist to remain on the register and continue to have a licence to practice.
Whole practice appraisal is required. That is, your appraisal must reflect all of the work that you do in the various locations in which you carry out your work.
NB. Allied Healthcare workers are regulated by their own, respective bodies.
Appraisal and revalidation services offered by the IMF
By virtue of being a "Designated Body", the IMF can offer to members the services of annual Appraisal; and the Responsible Officer in turn makes recommendations to the GMC/GDC for Revalidation. This is open to all members who need Appraisal and Revalidation (A&R) - in practice, this will be doctors, dentists and those Allied Healthcare workers who need A&R, unless they work wholly in the NHS (in which case their Appraisals need to be carried out within the NHS). A&R is not needed for students or retired members.
If you wish to have A&R services through the IMF, you need to be a member. See "Join now" if you have not already joined. Please contact Dr Nelda Frater ([email protected]), who is the Responsible Office, to discuss the matter.
